Austin is a dually qualified legal practitioner and Chief Consulting Officer of Esquires’ Legal, an international based legal consultancy; Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association and the Law Society UK. He attended University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State and Obafemi Awolowo University [formerly University of Ife], the latter from which he graduated with honours, in 1989. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990. He graduated with honours with a Master’s Degree at Law from the London Guildhall University, London (now London Metropolitan University), UK, with a bias in international trade, banking and commerce and international arbitration.
Austin was enrolled as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1999 and eventually became Senior/Executive Partner of Messrs Austin & Jed Solicitors, UK before he relocated to Nigeria. Other positions he has held include: Senior Partner, Messrs Austin Kola Fitzpatrick Solicitors. International Associate, Messrs Asuquo & Asuquo Lagos, Nigeria. Senior Associate, Messrs Akinwumi Ajibola & Associates [Property Law and Real Estate Experts]; and currently works in a consultancy capacity both domestically and internationally as the Chief Consulting Officer and Chief Executive Partner of Messrs Esquires’ Legal, an International Legal Practice & Consultancy Firm. He is an Associate Partner at Messrs Jean Chiazor & Co, Lagos Nigeria, [Maritime & Shipping Experts]. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIarb) and has been elevated to the Office of a Notary Public. His areas of Practice include legal drafting, company secretarial services, mediation/negotiations/ADR, sports law, maritime/admiralty law, general litigation, law of the Internet, immigration law, conveyancing & Real Estate, consumer protection/competition & antitrust law and international commercial law.
He has been involved in consultancy work in various capacities working with Firms for NCC, NERC and other Bodies helping to develop collaborative frameworks for their legal systems, helping to develop employee staff handbooks and working on USPF E-Accessibility Project in a monitoring capacity. He has also carried out investigative work on the capacity of stakeholders seeking to obtain licences from NERC. He is presently working on several proposals including one for the Mining industry involving an undertaking to assess all Mining Concessions in Nigeria up till date and is developing a proposal/concept for the proposed assessment.
Austin, an avid reader and writer, composes poetry, loves travelling, photography, scrabble, chess, football and keeping fit. He is also a radio analyst on Silverbird’s Rhythm 94-7 FM and Nigeriainfo.com FM, WE FM and appears as a guest on TV [AIT, Silverbird and People’s TV] in Abuja, Nigeria, dealing with significant sporting events, current affairs and legal issues in Nigeria and around the world. He also has some book projects on the way and has had some articles published. He is also a contributor to some major published works.
Austin is also CEO of Legum Consult, a legislative and public affairs company founded by reputable and experienced former Legislators, Advocates and Academics in the field of Law and allied areas with over 100 years combined experience, both locally and internationally.
